What size will toy, miniature and standard Poodle puppies reach when fully grown?

As you may already know, poodles come in three different sizes: Standard, Miniature and Toy. This is part of the reason that poodles are so popular and well suited to many people.

STANDARD POODLE:
A Standard Poodle, which is the largest, is any poodle that stands over 38cms (15 inches) but many can be as tall as 66cm (26 inches) at the top point of their shoulder. This means that the standard poodle’s head will be between the thigh and hip area of an adult and its back will sit at or above your knee.

MINIATURE POODLE:
A Miniature Poodle is the medium sized poodle which stands between 25-38cms (10-15inches). This will have the miniature poodles head reaching roughly the knee area of an adult and its back resting at or above your mid shin area.

TOY POODLE:
The toy Poodles are the smallest of these beautiful breeds and is any poodle which has the height less than 25cms (10 inches) at the top point of their shoulders. The toy poodles head will sit at the mid to high shin area of an adult and its back will meet your low to mid shin area.

STANDARD POODLE:
Depending on the height of your standard poodle puppies, they can weigh anywhere between 45-65 pounds (20-29 kg).

MINIATURE POODLE:
Miniature Poodles generally weigh between 12-18 pounds (5-8kg).

TOY POODLE:

What Colors do toy, miniature and standard Poodle puppies tend to be?

All of the Poodles come in a large number of different solid colors. You can find black poodle puppies, brown, blue, gray, silver, red, cream, apricot and cafe-au-lait. Another reason why these pooches are so popular, some people go so far as to match their standard poodle puppies to their decor!

How long is the Coat of a Poodle?

Poodles have a naturally curly coat which tends to be very dense.

You will find that Poodles are known for their well groomed and distinguished appearance.

You can choose between 3 different main styles to clip your new pup. The “Puppy”, “English Saddle” or “Continental”.

The “Puppy Clip” is the style with the most hair, covering the entire body except for the face, the paws and lower tail.

The “English Saddle” is similar to the “Puppy Clip” however there is breaks in the main coat at the hips and two more sections on the hind legs. Only the first third of the front legs has hair and again the base of the tail is shaved.

The “Continental” has the least amount of hair in the three main styles. The head and torso of your pooch is fully covered except for the face. From the hips down to the lower part of the hind legs is shaved as well as the lower tail area. There is a patch left on the rump. Like the “English Saddle”, the front legs only have hair on the first third.

In all of the above clips, the paws are shaved as well as the face and the lower section of the tail.

The amount of time grooming your standard poodle puppies can be quite extensive, it depends on how much effort you want to put in to making your pooch looking terrific.

How long will I need to spend Grooming my Poodle?

You should consider Poodles to be high maintenance when it comes to grooming. You will need to have them professionally clipped roughly every 6-8 weeks. Daily brushing is necessary if you want your poodle pup to be tangle and matte free. Your pooches coat can become a disaster if you neglect to brush it. A positive is that they shed little to no hair, which can be great if you suffer from allergies or would like a clean inside dog.

Poodles can be prone to skin conditions so it is best that you only bath them when necessary with a very gentle shampoo.

Do toy, miniature and standard Poodles have a long lifespan?

All Poodles will typically live to be 12-16 years of age and with the right nutrition and care it is possible to see them live beyond that. Taking good care of your new best friend will increase the time you have together.

What sort of Temperament will a Poodle have?

Poodles are a much loved breed throughout the world. This is due to their playful, loyal and attentive nature. You will find that they become extremely devoted to you and thrive on your companionship.

Your standard poodle puppies can become very connected with you, at times reacting to your emotions. All sizes of poodle will do well if you have a family environment but the smaller poodles will do better with older children rather than younger ones.

Your poodle will make a great watchdog, in some cases a little too well. They are known to bark excessively in some cases which you can prevent with good training.

How much Exercise will my Poodle need?

Poodles can be very agile, athletic dogs and will enjoy you taking them for swims and walks. They love getting involved with any family activities you do. Your standard poodle puppies thrive on playing off lead so finding an area where they can do that safely is a great way to exercise them.

Poodles are generally very eager to please so taking them to obedience training is an excellent way of keeping them occupied. Plus you have the added benefit of a well trained pooch. They also love agility, tracking, retrieving or just simply learning new tricks.

Am I the Ideal owner for a Poodle?

Poodles are extremely intelligent dogs, so if you don’t like your pets out smarting you, you may need to find a different breed. They need you to pamper them, not just with grooming but also with lots of love and attention.

They will fit in well with your family as they have great devotion and are easily trained. If you have other pets and want to introduce a new puppy, a poodle is a good fit as they get along well with other animals.

Just make sure you socialize them from a young age through training and meeting new people and animals. Standard poodle puppies are also known to have a great sense of humor so it’s best that an owner has one to match!
