Can You Give Dalmatian Puppies The Attention They Deserve?
Dalmatian puppies might be familiar to you for many reasons. Their unique spotted appearance has made them a very popular breed over the years. Most famously bought for children after having seen or read “101 Dalmatians”. These bright and energetic pups will make sure you stay active with their extensive exercise requirements.
They will make a great new addition to your family due to their friendly nature, just make sure you don’t mind vacuuming your home as they do shed quite a lot.
They can also be known as Fireman Dogs! This was because many years ago these dogs helped horse drawn fire carts by leading them and clearing the path for the horses to fires. They were also used as great search and rescue dogs. Although they don’t aid fireman in this day and age they still can be seen as a brigade’s mascot.
What size will a Dalmatian puppy reach when fully grown?
A fully grown Dalmatian is a large muscular dog which will stand between 48 to 58cms (19 to 23 inches) tall. The head of a Dalmatian will roughly reach the upper thigh area of an adult and its back will generally reach your low thigh area. If you are planning on presenting your Dalmatian at shows, it is important to know that if they are over 61cm (24 inches) tall, they will be disqualified.

How heavy will a Dalmatian puppy grow to be?
You will most commonly find these dogs weigh between 23-25kg (50-55 pounds), but their weight can vary anywhere between 20 to 32kg (45-70 pounds). The taller Dalmatians tend to be on the heavier side.
What Colors do Dalmatians tend to be?
You have probably noticed that when it comes to the colorings of dogs, the Dalmatian would have to be the most distinctive and recognizable.
Their coats have a base of pure white with dark dots. More than likely you have seen them with black dots but the dots can also come in a liver brown color.
How long is the Coat of a Dalmatian?
Grooming will be relatively easy for you as Dalmatian puppies have a very short dense coat which sits close to the body. A downfall of the Dalmatians is that they are fairly heavy shedders all year round. This means that you will need to clean up after their hair and it also has a tendency to stick to everything.
How long will I need to spend grooming my Dalmatian?
Keeping your Dalmatian’s coat healthy and looking vibrant is an easy task. You will simply need to give the occasional brush and bath with an oatmeal based shampoo to have them looking great.
If you want to own a Dalmatian pup you will need to get comfortable with shedding dog hair. These heavy shedders prefer to be inside and this means you’ll be reaching for the vacuum on a more than regular basis. You can reduce the shedding by brushing them to remove any loose hair but it will not eliminate the problem.
Do Dalmatians have a long lifespan?
Generally Dalmatians have a lifespan between 11 to 13 years but they have been known to reach 15-16 years of age with the right care including a good diet, health care, exercise and of course love and affection.
Dalmatians are generally a healthy breed of dog. One of the major faults you can see in this breed is that some Dalmatian puppies can be born deaf, either with no hearing at all or only in one ear (unilateral hearing).
Responsible breeders will never knowingly sell you a deaf Dalmatian nor breed with them.
What sort of Temperament will a gorgeous Dalmatian have?
Dalmatians are highly energetic dogs that love to have a run around and play with you. They adore people and will love to spend plenty of time with you and especially your children. They generally make great companions for your kids as long as you have socialized and trained them from an early age (keep in mind that they can be a bit too big and energetic if you have toddlers).
Dalmatians are intelligent dogs that will want to please you. With training, you should always use positive reinforcement techniques. These dogs will not do well with harsh training methods.
Once you spend some time around these dogs you’ll realize what can usually be seen as a snarl is actually these dogs smiling (we find this so cute and something very unique to this breed).
How much Exercise will my Dalmatian need?
If you get a Dalmatian, the one thing you can count on is that they will definitely keep you active. They have heaps of endurance and will just want to keep going and take you with them.
They really don’t cope well with you leaving them alone in an empty backyard for long periods of time. A Dalmatian will crave your attention and will need you to take them on a lengthy daily walk.
They will always be up for a bit of play in your yard with you as well. If they don’t get enough exercise these dogs can be seen as “hyper” and can become a bit of a nuisance. If you want to be the owner of a healthy and well balanced Dalmatian, you need to be committed to them in regards to their exercise needs and willing to give them plenty of attention.
Am I the Ideal owner for Dalmatian puppies?
It is so easy to see the appeal of these dogs. Their unique colorings and playful personalities will have you falling in love with them in an instant. You may have already worked out that these dogs aren’t for everyone.
They need you to be active and willing to exercise them as well as being ok with them sharing your home. Dalmatian puppies are not happy being separated from your family and will want to be indoors with you.
Their one downfall is the amount of shedding they do. If you don’t believe you can handle your home (not too mention your clothes) being covered in hair on a daily basis, then a Dalmatian is probably not the dog for you.
